Call for papers
Thomas Paine and the American Civil Liberties
Date: October 20, 2008Location: University of Milan
Toward the bicentennial of the death of Thomas Paine (1809-2009) the University of Milan will host a conference entitled “Thomas Paine and the American Civil Liberties” on October 20, 2008. The purpose of the conference is to read Paine’s works in his age as well as to rethink the importance of his ideas in today America. Consequently, the first part of the conference will address to Eighteenth century, and the second part will consider the use of Paine’s image and works in our age, as a worldwide symbol of the American civil liberties. Another purpose of the conference is to put together all the organizations and people interested in presenting their future project for the bicentennial of Thomas Paine. Historians interested in presenting a paper are invited to send their proposals before the end of August 2008.

The University of Milan will offer two days stay in Milan, lunch and dinner for the day of the conference, but the speakers are expected to cover their own travel expenses.
